DOST-Cavite, LGU Trece Martires Enhance Food Industry Practices with seminar on GMP, packaging and labeling

     In a proactive move to enhance food industry standards, the Department of Science and Technology (DOST)-Cavite in collaboration with the Local Government Unit of Trece Martires City (LGU-TMC), headed by Mayor Gemma Buendia Lubigan, hosted the seminar on Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), as well as innovative approaches to product packaging and labeling, which drew a diverse array of stakeholders from across Cavite last July 4 at the Session Hall of Trece Martires City.

The seminar featured comprehensive sessions led by industry experts. Ms. Anna Marie S. Daigan, Senior Science Research Specialist from DOST-Cavite, delivered insightful lectures on GMP, stressing the importance of stringent standards in manufacturing processes. Complementing her expertise, Mr. Rene Jethro A. Abary and Mr. Dane Archibald G. Balanon from DOST’s Packaging Technology Division - Industrial Technology Development Institute (DOST-ITDI) provided invaluable insights into packaging requirements, innovative techniques, and effective label design.

Sixty participants from cooperatives, Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), and various public and private institutions actively engaged in discussions and open forums. The seminar served as a platform for exchanging ideas and addressing critical issues related to food safety, hygiene practices, and regulatory compliance.

Highlighting the significance of advanced packaging technologies, the event underscored sanitation’s pivotal role in ensuring product quality and consumer safety. Certificates were awarded to participants in recognition of their commitment to advancing industry standards, presented by Ms. Cristina V. Bahala from LGU-TMC.

The collaboration between DOST-Cavite and LGU-TMC exemplifies a proactive approach toward fostering industry excellence and consumer trust within the local food sector. As stakeholders continue to implement these insights, the stage is set for a more robust and compliant food industry landscape across Cavite. By Chenie Lee

Laguna PDRRMO holds Incident Command System Position Course

  The Laguna Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) headed by Mr. Aldwin M. Cejo, in coordination with the Office of the Civil Defense CALABARZON, conducted a 5-day Incident Command System (ICS) - Position Course at El Cielito Hotel, Santa Rosa City, Laguna on 29 July to 01 August 2024, attended by Laguna’s city and municipal DRRMO personnel.  The trainees were tasked to discuss, brainstorm, plan and decide on the operational activities to be done before responding. It also raised awareness on the different ICS positions being used in responding to disasters for them to be equipped with much needed knowledge, skills and attitude in managing disasters and planned events.
