Laguna PSGDO holds 2024 Free Sports Clinics graduation ceremony

STA. CRUZ, Laguna - The Provincial Sports and Games Development Office (PSGDO) conducted a Mass Graduation Ceremony for the students of this year’s Serbisyong Tama Free Sports Clinics on 08 July 2024 at the Laguna Sports Complex Basketball Gymnasium in Brgy. Bubukal.

Governor Ramil L. Hernandez and Congresswoman Ruth-Mariano Hernandez graced the event which was attended by more than 500 students from nearby communities. Sports demonstrations were performed by Arnis, Taekwondo and Gymnastics students during the program.

In her speech, Congresswoman Ruth Mariano-Hernandez emphasized the importance and role of sports in child development and nation-building. She also assured that she will push for bigger budget allocation for this sector in the future.

Sports Development Officer Mr. Mario C. Tobias agrees that the year-round support to the sports efforts of the province will pave the way for Laguna to produce more competitive athletes.

A total of 66 free sports clinics in 18 sports disciplines were conducted simultaneously in the different cities and municipalities of Laguna from June to July 2024 where more than 2,500 Laguneños ages 4 to 18 years old joined the program.

The conduct of the annual free sports clinics is one of the centerpiece sports development programs of PSGDO, which aims to promote physical fitness and sports among the youth; while serving as a recruitment base for local sports associations and a venue to identify potential talents.  They can be included in the provincial pool for higher level sports competitions such as the Philippine Youth Games or the Batang Pinoy national games.
