Batangas Gubernatorial Aspirant Denies Withdrawal Rumor

San Jose, Batangas 9March 2, 2023)– Barangay Chairperson Walter Ozaeta of this town, commonly known as “Kuya Kap Walter,” has denied rumors suggesting that he is backing out of the gubernatorial race for Batangas province.

In a media conference held at his rest house on Sunday, Ozaeta firmly stated that he is committed to continuing his candidacy. “Tuloy ang laban natin” (Our fight continues), Ozaeta declared.

The barangay chairperson emphasized his advocacy for improving services at the barangay level, which he believes are currently lacking, particularly in the areas of healthcare, hospital services, and educational opportunities.

Ozaeta challenged the people of Batangas to give him the opportunity to prove that free healthcare, including hospitalization and medicine, as well as accessible public education, are achievable. He pointed to South Cotabato in Mindanao as an example of effective governance that could serve as a model for Batangas.

“The provincial government has the financial resources to provide free services like hospitalization, medicine, and scholarships to students, thanks to its substantial budget, which amounts to billions,” Ozaeta explained in Filipino.

He also expressed concern over the challenges faced by barangay officials, who, despite being at the forefront of local governance, often have to operate with limited resources.

“The plight of those in need keeps me awake at night when resources are scarce,” Ozaeta lamented. “This reality pushed me to run for governor, despite the many challenges.”

With only 25 days remaining before the official campaign period begins, Ozaeta reiterated his commitment to the race and dismissed the rumors of his withdrawal.

“We will continue reaching out to as many people as we can, presenting our plans for the future of Batangas under my leadership,” Ozaeta concluded.  (Zen Trinidad/ Photo Credit: Mhadz Marasigan)
