Puerto Galera Gears Up for Summer: Mayor Ilagan Leads Tourism Revival
Puerto Galera, Oriental Mindoro - Puerto Galera Mayor Rocky Ilagan is fully prepared for the influx of tourists this summer, ensuring that the town remains a top destination for both local and international visitors.
Despite a decline in the Chinese market, the surge of Korean and European tourists has helped offset the losses.
The municipality has been actively promoting Puerto Galera at travel marts, while online marketing efforts continue to attract travelers.
For Holy Week, the town is set to host a grand beach party featuring well-known bands, adding to the vibrant summer experience.
The Public Information Office (PIO) has been activated to disseminate timely updates and ensure smooth coordination.
Known as the “Diving Capital of the Philippines,” Puerto Galera remains a paradise for beach lovers, diving enthusiasts, and those interested in the rich culture of the Mangyan community.
With 7,000 tourist arrivals recorded in Sabang Beach alone, the town is seeing a steady stream of visitors.
Myor Ilagan also highlights improvements in tourist facilities, with White Beach and Sabang undergoing enhancements to provide better services.
Around 30% of domestic tourists are repeat visitors, showing Puerto Galera’s lasting appeal.
The proposal to establish a cruise port is being welcomed as a significant boost to tourism. However, Ilagan emphasizes the need to consult local fisherfolk, as the recommended site is an important fishing ground.
With security measures in place, an insurgency-free environment, and force multipliers ensuring safety, Puerto Galera remains a prime holiday spot.
Mayor Ilagan invites everyone to experience the town’s world-class white sand beaches, vibrant marine life, and warm hospitality.
“We continue to improve our facilities and work closely with the Department of Tourism to further promote Puerto Galera. We welcome all visitors to come and experience the beauty of our town,” Ilagan said.( Roselle R Aquino)
