2ID deploys additional troops to secure CALABARZON, MIMARO polls

The Army’s 2nd Infantry Division deployed additional troops who will assist the Philippine National Police (PNP) and the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) in securing polls in Region 4A and 4B, the adjacent regions in the country’s seat of power, yesterday, May 8.

The 2ID deployed 16 officers and 86 enlisted personnel in addition to the troops who have been augmented by the subordinate units to the PNP and COMELEC early this month to ensure the safety of the people in Southern Tagalog, before, during, and after the May 12 national and local elections.

It can be remembered that 2ID also deployed a company-sized force last April 27 to augment the troops of the 1st Infantry Division in its election duty in Mindanao.

2ID commander, Maj. Gen. Cerilo Balaoro Jr., earlier stated that the Jungle Fighters, including those on stand-by alert from the subordinate units, will closely monitor their respective area to ensure that all possible threats related to the election will be addressed.

“All our units have been working closely with the COMELEC, the PNP, and other volunteer groups and agencies to ensure peaceful and credible elections,” Maj. Gen. Balaoro said.

“We ensure the public that all election-related eventualities will be immediately addressed to preserve the sanctity of the electoral process in the region,” vowed Maj. Gen. Balaoro.

He also encouraged the people in Southern Tagalog to go out and vote to practice their rights to suffrage, while reminding them to cooperate with security forces in upholding the integrity of the elections. ###
