Laguna, ERDC break ground on Calamba-Bay Pass Road, see to improve connectivity and boost economic growth

Calamba City-The provincial government of Laguna marks a significant milestone in connectivity and economic development with the construction of the Calamba-Bay Bypass Road and Development Project, one of the major solutions offered to ease traffic congestion and further stimulate economic growth across the province.

The formal groundbreaking ceremony was held on Wednesday, June 11 led by the provincial government in partnership with the Ecotoll Road and Development Corporation (ERDC). The event was witnessed by officials from the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), local government units, and other key stakeholders.

DPWH Assistant Secretary Nerie Bueno expressed the agency’s full support for the project, noting that it complements with the administration of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr’s Build Better More” infrastructure program. It is also aligned with Phase 1 and Phase 2 of the Laguna Lakeshore Road Network.

Asec. Bueno emphasized that the bypass road will significantly improve regional connectivity and offer a safer, more efficient transportation alternative for motorists, ultimately reducing congestion and enhancing road conditions.

Governor Ramil Hernandez shared that the vision for the Calamba-Bay Bypass Road began in 2018, born out of a need to address the growing traffic issues in Calamba, Los Baños, and Bay. The project also aims to create jobs, attract investments, and open up trade and development opportunities—especially for the eastern part of Laguna.

Funded entirely through a public-private partnership with ERDC, the project benefited from technical assistance provided by the provincial government throughout its planning, construction, and implementation phases.

ERDC Chairman Reghis M. Romero III reassured government officials and the public of the company’s commitment to transparency in completing the bypass road within the projected three-year timeline and in minimizing ecological impact.

Local chief executives from municipalities in Laguna’s 3rd and 4th districts also expressed strong support and appreciation, recognizing the project’s potential to bring in more investments and significantly reduce travel time for their constituents. | Christopher Hedreyda/PIA-Laguna, Maine Odong/PIA-4A
