DTI Laguna Brings Entrepreneurship Training to Women PDLs at Santa Cruz District Jail

Santa Cruz, Laguna  March 25, 2026  In celebration of National Womens Month, the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Laguna Provincial Office, through Negosyo Center Santa Cruz, partnered with Public Employment Service Office (PESO) Santa Cruz to bring entrepreneurship education directly to women Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDLs) at the BJMP Santa Cruz District Jail.

The seminar, titled How to Start a Business, provided participants with practical knowledge and basic entrepreneurial skills, empowering them to explore sustainable livelihood opportunities and prepare for successful reintegration into society. Women PDLs were introduced to essential business concepts, including identifying viable business ideas, managing limited resources, basic financial planning, and cultivating an entrepreneurial mindset.

This initiative is part of DTI Lagunas ongoing efforts to expand access to entrepreneurship development programs, particularly for marginalized and underserved sectors. By bringing Negosyo Center services directly to detention facilities, DTI Laguna ensures that even those under custodial supervision can gain valuable skills for financial independence.

Participants actively engaged in discussions on key entrepreneurial concepts such as recognizing viable business ideas, managing limited resources, and applying simple budgeting and financial planning. The seminar also highlighted the importance of determination, discipline, and creativity in building a sustainable livelihood.

The collaboration between DTI Laguna and PESO Santa Cruz reflects a shared commitment to inclusive economic development, ensuring that opportunities for learning and livelihood reach every sector of society (VDAlvarez, DTI Laguna).
