Doktor sa Barangay and Medical Mission Bring Free Healthcare to Los Baños; Gov. Sol Aragones Leads House-to-House Medical Services
Laguna-Residents of Brgy. Tuntungin Putho, Los Baños, Laguna received free medical consultations and medicines during the “Doktor sa Barangay” and Medical Mission program held today May 8. The activity was led by Governor Sol Aragones together with Mayor Neil Andrew Nocon, the Laguna Health Team headed by Dr. Eric Tayag, the Provincial Health Office under Dr. Odilon Inoncillo, chief of hospitals, pharmacists, health workers, and provincial government employees.““The initiative brought healthcare closer to the community through house-to-house visits and barangay-based medical missions. Doctors personally checked patients in their homes and in designated areas, ensuring immediate consultation and proper assessment. After evaluation, pharmacists promptly provided prescribed medicines, allowing residents to receive care without delay.““The program is part of the province’s continuing effort to strengthen community-based health interventions, especially for residents in far-flung and underserved areas of Laguna. Many beneficiaries were senior citizens and individuals in need of regular medical attention.““Governor Sol Aragones emphasized the importance of directly reaching communities to ensure that no resident is left without access to medical care. “Pinupuntahan muna natin yung malalayong barangay, may kasama na tayong doctor at mga gamot sa barangay at bahay-bahay,” said Governor Aragones.““She added that consultations are intentionally done even inside homes to better understand the condition of patients in their actual living environment. This approach also helps medical teams respond more appropriately to each case. “Yung konsultasyon po ay ginagawa natin mismo sa bahay nila,” she added.““Health workers and medical staff assisted in organizing patients and ensuring that prescriptions were properly processed. The presence of pharmacists allowed immediate dispensing of medicines after consultation, reducing the need for follow-up visits.““Mayor Neil Andrew Nocon noted that the system provides more efficient access to healthcare, especially for maintenance patients who regularly need medication support. He also highlighted how the program helps streamline medical assistance in the municipality. “““Maganda po ang sistema, lahat nabibigyan at ang iba ay nakaka-avail na sa kanilang booklet para sa maintenance na gamot,” said Mayor Nocon. He also encouraged continued collaboration between local and provincial health teams to sustain the program’s impact in Los Baños.““The second part of the activity, the Medical Mission in Brgy. Tuntungin Putho, further expanded access to healthcare for residents who were unable to visit health centers. The mission focused on ensuring proper diagnosis before medication was given, emphasizing the importance of consultation prior to treatment.““Medical teams continued to assess patients one by one, while health workers assisted in documentation and distribution of medicines. Residents were guided through the process to ensure orderly and efficient flow of services.“““Inilalapit po natin ang tulong medikal sa bawat barangay,” said Governor Aragones. She further stressed that proper consultation is essential, as not all patients require maintenance medicines and some may need different types of treatment depending on diagnosis.“““Dapat may medical mission para macheck-up kayo kasi baka hindi ninyo kailangan ng maintenance na gamot, baka ibang gamot ang kailangan ninyo at hinanda na po namin ito,” she added.““During the mission, a senior citizen resident expressed gratitude for the presence of medical teams in their community. The resident also personally approached Governor Sol Aragones and, in a light and heartfelt moment, referred to “Yakap Sol” as if it were the comforting remedy she felt from the governor’s presence and care during the activity. Simple conversations and interactions between residents and officials added a more personal touch to the mission, which many beneficiaries welcomed warmly.““Mayor Nocon also expressed his gratitude on behalf of the municipal government, noting the strong connection between Governor Aragones and Los Baños. He recalled her ties to the town, where she studied at the University of the Philippines and previously launched health initiatives.“““Ang pangalawang bahay ni Governor Sol ay saan? Sa Los Baños dahil una ay dito siya nag-aral sa UP. In fact yung isa sa unang Akay ni Gob Botika ay dito sa bayan ng Los Baños. We would like to thank you Gob in behalf of the Municipal Government of Los Baños,” said Mayor Nocon.““The “Doktor sa Barangay” and Medical Mission initiative continues to strengthen Laguna’s commitment to bringing healthcare closer to communities, ensuring that residents receive timely consultation, proper medical guidance, and essential medicines right at their doorstep.(PIO-Laguna)
